Board of Directors Application
Open positions - Board of Directors
Yellow Arrow is seeking to expand its board of directors. These roles are volunteer positions that carry a responsibility to contribute to the organization’s success. Board Members are required to meet the following criteria:
Passionate about Yellow Arrow’s mission
Supportive of a diverse, transparent, and inclusive culture
Willing to dedicate time to support Yellow Arrow’s growth and sustainability, including:
Attending regular board meetings, reading all prep material, and participating actively in discussions
Understanding that Yellow Arrow’s board is a working board; board participation is very hands-on and essential to our success
Volunteering time to board-related tasks, as needed
Contributing to Yellow Arrow’s financial standing, either by making an annual personal donation or a commitment to raise an equivalent amount through soliciting external donations
Willing to learn and understand the organization’s mission, culture, policies, and programs, including:
Advocating for the organization
Informing others about the organization and sharing news and events on social media
Attending events whenever possible
Taking on special assignments, as needed
Providing expertise and guidance to staff in corresponding functional areas
At this time, we are specifically interested in potential board members located in the Baltimore area with experience in one of the following areas:
Publications (as Director of Publications) - Must have experience in the publishing industry or related field. This individual will serve as a support/back-up to our Editor-in-Chief who works on the journal, Vignette, chapbooks, and other publications processes. This officer will provide mentorship and oversight to editorial staff and help guide the direction of our publications.
Marketing (as Director of Marketing) - Must have experience in marketing and social media content design and strategy. This individual will oversee our approach to marketing and social media for general promotion, publications, workshops, and other events.

Open positions - Staff
Yellow Arrow is seeking to expand its staff. Some of the staff roles are volunteer while others may include a stipend. All carry a responsibility to contribute to the organization’s success. While each job description is different, all of our staff members must:
Demonstrate communication and leadership skills and experience
Be passionate about collaborating with a team to amplify women-identifying voices
Be available to fulfill responsibilities throughout the year
readers (VOLUNTEER)
Goals for this position: Support women-identifying creatives within the Yellow Arrow community on all publication initiatives through reading and voting on submissions, all on a project-by-project basis.
Overall duties:
Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and respond to messages in a timely manner
Finish all tasks agreed upon within the given timeline dates; if you are unable to do so, communicate the information as soon as possible
Sign up for at least three reading opportunities per year for the journal, chapbooks, and Vignette; what to sign up for depends on your availability
Provide reading and voting assistance on publications
Write at least one blog per year for the Yellow Arrow website
Help with research projects as they come up (if you have time)
Attend scheduled staff meetings (about twice a year) and journal/ Vignette/chapbook orientation meetings, as needed
Position requirements:
General knowledge of a variety of poetry/prose styles (from university classes acceptable)
Ability to read/edit using Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF
Demonstrated communication and leadership skills and experience
Passionate about collaborating with a team to amplify women-identifying voices
Must be available to fulfill responsibilities throughout the year
publications fellow ($1,000 annual stipend)
Goals for this position: Support women-identifying creatives within the Yellow Arrow community by assisting with Yellow Arrow’s publications program, working directly with their supervisor.
Overall duties:
Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and respond to messages in a timely manner
Finish all tasks agreed upon within the given timeline dates; if unable to do so, communicate the information as soon as possible
Provide reading, voting, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading assistance for Yellow Arrow chapbooks, Yellow Arrow Journal, and Yellow Arrow Vignette
Create and send decline emails for Yellow Arrow Journal and chapbook submissions round 1
Create social media graphics and captions and videos for publications and schedule posts
Manage Yellow Arrow Vignette, working closely with the guest editor and intern
Learn how to use InDesign to format a publication and format the last two publications
Search for Yellow Arrow publications/authors to find mentions
Draft a proposal for an editorial feedback program for Yellow Arrow to offer
Provide upkeep for the Yellow Arrow website in Squarespace and write blogs
Help with research projects as they come up
Attend scheduled staff meetings (about twice a year) and publication orientation meetings, as needed
Position requirements:
Preference given to someone with a BA or MFA looking to gain direct skills
Preference given to Baltimore creatives who identifies as a woman
General editing experience (2+ years preferred, from university classes acceptable)
General writing experience (2+ years preferred, from university classes acceptable)
General knowledge of a variety of poetry/prose styles (from university classes acceptable)
Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style helpful
Knowledge of Squarespace (website editing), Meta Business Suite, and/or Canva helpful
Ability to read/edit using Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and Adobe PDF
Demonstrated communication and leadership skills and experience
Passionate about collaborating with a team to amplify women-identifying voices
Must be available to fulfill responsibilities yearlong
